PHISHGUARD AI Project Title: An Intelligent, Explainable and Multi-Layered AI-Based Phishing Detection System. Problem Statement With the rapid growth of digital communication, online transactions and internet-based services, phishing attacks have become an increasingly serious cybersecurity threat. Attackers exploit human trust through fraudulent emails, SMS messages, suspicious URLs and impersonation of legitimate organizations to steal sensitive information, financial credentials and personal data. The increasing use of Artificial Intelligence by cybercriminals has further complicated this problem, enabling them to generate highly convincing phishing messages, imitate trusted brands and create sophisticated social engineering attacks that are difficult for ordinary users to identify. Existing phishing detection mechanisms often rely on predefined rules, URL blacklists and reputation databases, which may struggle to identify newly emerging threats and contextually manipulated messages. Moreover, conventional security warnings frequently fail to explain why a communication is suspicious or provide users with sufficient guidance to respond safely. The proposed problem is to develop an intelligent, accessible and explainable phishing detection system that can analyse suspicious URLs, emails and digital messages using machine learning, natural language processing and threat intelligence. The system should identify potential phishing indicators, assess threat severity, explain the reasoning behind its assessment and provide actionable preventive recommendations to help users make informed cybersecurity decisions.
