Char Dham registrations crossed the 50 lakh mark by 15 June 2026, and Aadhaar is now mandatory. Each pilgrim carries a QR e-pass scanned at checkpoints such as Sonprayag, Pandukeshwar, and Janki Chatti; daily caps apply (roughly 12,000/day at Kedarnath and 15,000 at Badrinath), and the system is meant to tell authorities who is where when a landslide or bad weather strikes. Fake passes are a recognised problem: officials have proposed a nominal ₹10 fee to curb fake bookings, but it has not been approved. Gaps today: no predictive congestion at checkpoints and trek start points, no weather-linked re-slotting, no offline-verifiable pass, and pilgrim tracing is manual.
