Legal documentation is a silent, everyday problem in India. It rarely makes headlines and involves no crime, yet millions of citizens are quietly exploited every year because they cannot understand the rent agreements, employment contracts, legal notices, or FIRs they are asked to sign or respond to. Nyaya-Setu is an AI-powered legal-literacy platform that reads, analyses, and explains legal documents in plain English and Hindi, flags risky clauses before a citizen signs, maps IPC provisions to the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and escalates genuinely complex cases to the Government's own free legal-aid infrastructure (Tele-Law/NALSA). This report outlines the rationale for selecting this problem, the scale of the underlying issue, a review of the existing legal-tech landscape, the specific gaps Nyaya-Setu addresses, and — most importantly for a Government-oriented evaluation — how the platform directly strengthens ongoing public policy missions such as Digital India, Access to Justice (Article 39A), and the Department of Justice's Tele-Law/DISHA program
